Guangzhou, China – The Liberian Business Association in China (LBAC) hosted a vibrant and well-attended gathering last Saturday at the renowned ‘Taste of Africa’ restaurant. The event, organized under the leadership of the association’s dynamic chairman, Boima Fahnbulleh Jr. (alias ‘The Biggest B’), brought together Liberian entrepreneurs, traders, and community members for an evening of networking, cultural pride, and strategic discussions.
A Night of Liberian Culture and Togetherness:
Attendees were treated to an array of authentic Liberian dishes, drinks, and music, creating a warm and familiar atmosphere. The event reinforced the association’s commitment to fostering togetherness among Liberians doing business in China while addressing critical challenges faced by the community.
Echoes of Support from the Community:
The floor was opened to members, who expressed overwhelming support for the new association. Madam Victoria S.M. Kpengba (China Queen), a respected businesswoman and a treasurer on the board of the Association, shared her gratitude and a call for unity:

“I want to say, I’m grateful for this organization you have founded. We pray that God gives all we Liberians who come here for business the wisdom to work together as a team to carry this unity forward. When you are united, nobody will be able to penetrate between you. If we are united with our brothers and sisters on the ground here, nothing will give us a hard time tomorrow.” she added
This sentiment was strongly echoed by Mr. Saah, a prominent Liberian businessman and an advisor on the Board of the Liberian Business Association in China, who applauded the leadership’s efforts:
“Boima, you and your brothers behind this organization, I want to say thank you. I know what it takes to be a chairman and to organize a union like this. Don’t feel distracted by seeing only a few Liberians here today; it has succeeded… I have been to the Chinese embassy and on air to appeal to the government about the issues that affect us. The effort to move this forward is in our hands. Thank you for financing this program. Let us all support this organization. Back home there are challenges, overseas there are also challenges, so let’s work together.” He said.
Unity and Advocacy for Liberian Traders:
In his address, Chairman Fahnbulleh built on this community support, stressing the importance of unity and fair trade practices. He highlighted the association’s role as the first organized body representing Liberian traders in the country.
“Since Liberians began trading in China, we’ve never had an organization to represent our interests. Now, we’ve come together to protect our people,” Fahnbulleh stated. “Many face issues like receiving wrong or substandard goods from suppliers. We are pushing for better accountability. This organization isn’t about me—it’s about empowering our business community.” The Chairman stated.
A Celebration Within the Celebration:
In a heartfelt moment, Chairman Fahnbulleh used the occasion to celebrate one of their own, announcing the birthday of the long-time and respected Businessman and chairman on Way and Means of of the Liberian business community in person of Mr. Sylvester Kolongbo.
A birthday cake was presented, and the room joined in celebration, showcasing the family-oriented spirit of the organization.
Educating Newcomers on Visa and Immigration Rules:
The chairman also addressed common misunderstandings about Chinese visas, particularly among first-time travelers.
“Some believe they get a three-month stay upon arrival, but in reality, it’s often just one month—the three-month period is for preparation before entering China. Overstaying leads to serious problems, so we’re here to guide our people and prevent such mistakes,” he explained.
Fahnbulleh emphasized the struggles of newcomers and younger traders, particularly with language barriers and navigating daily logistics.
“For many, even getting a taxi or finding a hotel after landing is a challenge. We’ve organized ourselves to provide guidance and support,” he added.
Collaboration with African Union in Guangzhou:
The event also featured George Blee, Chairman of the African Union in Guangzhou, who works closely with Liberians and other Africans on visa issues, overstays, and trade disputes.
“As the chairman mentioned, if you face any visa, financial, or goods-related challenges, don’t hesitate to reach out to the Liberian Business Association in China. We will do our best to assist,” Mr. Sheriff assured the attendees.
A Community Looking Forward:
The evening concluded on a high note, with guests enjoying food, drinks, and lively Liberian music. The atmosphere was one of unity and optimism, as members networked and shared experiences.
The LBAC continues to solidify its role as a crucial support system for Liberian entrepreneurs in China, ensuring they navigate trade, immigration, and cultural challenges with confidence.
